Stock Market Opening Updates

Benchmark indices started off the day on a flat note Tuesday as investors awaited third quarter GDP data due later today.

The 30-share BSE Sensex was up 1.32 points at 28814.20 and the 50-share NSE Nifty rose 0.05 points to 8896.75.

Cipla, ONGC, Tata Motors, GAIL, NTPC, Tech Mahindra, Bharti Infratel, Aurobindo Pharma and Grasim were early gainers while ITC, Bajaj Auto, Infosys, Sun Pharma, Reliance Industries, BPCL and Hindalco were losers.

The Indian rupee opened marginally lower at 66.74 per dollar today against previous close of 66.70.

Stock Market Opening Updates

Equity benchmarks opened flat with a positive bias on Tuesday, with the Nifty inching towards 8900 level, led by technology, healthcare and metals stocks.

The 30-share BSE Sensex was up 34.26 points at 28695.84 and the 50-share NSE Nifty rose 13.05 points to 8892.25.

Infosys gained 1 percent on hopes of share buyback. Reliance Industries, Axis Bank, ONGC and Sun Pharma were other gainers while HDFC Bank fell 0.6 percent on profit booking.

Bharti Airtel, ITC, Maruti, Cipla and GAIL were other losers. Ambuja Cements fell 2 percent after fourth quarter earnings.

Profit grew by 59.9 percent on low base in year-ago period.

Markets in Asia traded mostly higher, as traders searched for direction following a public holiday in the US on Monday.

In Japan, the Nikkei 225 added 0.65 percent, while across the Korean Strait, the Kospi was up 1.06 percent.

Benchmark indices closed lower on Wednesday despite positive global cues, weighed by auto, pharma, infra and metals stocks.

The 30-share BSE was down 183.75 points at 28155.56 and the 50-share NSE Nifty fell 67.60 points to 8724.70.

About three shares declined for every share rising on the BSE.

Tata Motors plunged 10 percent and Sun Pharma was down 4 percent after earnings missed analysts’ estimates.

ICICI Bank, L&T, Adani Ports and Maruti Suzuki fell 1-2 percent while ITC, HDFC Bank, TCS, Reliance Industries and HDFC gained.

Equity benchmarks started off the week on a positive note, tracking positive Asian cues and after consolidation in previous week. The 30-share BSE Sensex was up 115.88 points at 28450.13 and the 50-share NSE Nifty gained 24.35 points at 8817.90. Hindalco Industries gained 1.8 percent ahead of quarterly earnings.

Bharti Infratel, GAIL, Tata Power, Adani Ports, Tata Steel, Infosys and ICICI Bank were early gainers.

Idea Cellular tanked 4.84 percent, Bank of Baroda was down 4.15 percent and Coal India fell 2.68 percent after third quarter earnings.

Bharti Airtel and BHEL were other losers.

The Indian rupee opened marginally higher at 66.90 per dollar today against Friday’s closing value of 66.88.

Benchmark indices ended range bound session on a flat note after the RBI maintained status quo and changed policy stance to neutral from accommodation.

The Sensex was down 45.24 points at 28289.92 and the Nifty gained 0.75 points at 8769.05.

The broader markets outperformed, with the BSE Midcap index rising 0.5 percent.

About 1509 shares advanced against 1365 declining shares on the exchange.
